On the morning of August 15, 2015, Mike Rosenstein passed away peacefully with his loving wife of 33 years, Hollis Rosenstein, by his side. In addition to Hollis, Mike is survived by his three children, Stan Cope (Xiaoyu), Mary Halmhuber (George), Cindy Crowdus (Mark); his sister, Ranelle Mackey (George Stokes); nieces, Heather Mackey and Jenifer Taylor (Travis and sons, Jacob and Jordan); granddaughters, Morgan Wang, Bethany Ford, Olivia Crowdus, and Bailey Pedersen; and his great grandchildren, Annabelle and Gabriel Ford. Mike was preceded in death by his father, Sam G. Rosenstein, and his mother, Jeannette B. Rosenstein. If you asked Mike about his greatest accomplishment in life, he would undoubtedly say it is his family. Born on February 15, 1954, Mike was a lifelong resident of Frankfort, KY and spent most of his life working to make his hometown a better place through his many volunteer, church, and community activities. Mike loved his family, church, country, community, and friends and his goal each day was to do everything he could to show his love and devotion. Goal achieved! Mike was the Executive Director of Thorn Hill Adult Learning Center and was considered their champion, leader, and true friend to all at the Center- staff or student. He also spent many years at Kentucky State University where he was the Assistant Director of Purchasing and later the Director of Telecommunications. According to many, he opened the market for cell phones in Frankfort when employed by Bell South Mobility. Mike was an Eagle Scout, former Captain in the U.S. Army, Third Degree Mason, member of the American Legion, and most recently was serving as President of the Optimist Club. Mike was also a former Lt. Governor of Optimist Zone 3 of the Kentucky/West Virginia District. Mike served as an Elder and Captain of the Sound and Video Team at Bridgeport Christian Church where he had been a member for over 20 years. One of his most enjoyable activities was his membership in the Bluegrass Theater Guild. Mike ran lights and sound for many performances over the years and shared at no cost his skills with many other community organizations, events, and individuals. He also had a recording studio in his home where made many recordings for special groups and his and other churches. Mike was an avid fisherman, Quarter Midget Car racing champion, boater, and enjoyed flying remote control airplanes. However, his favorite activity was spending time with his wife and family. A celebration of Mike’s life will be held on Thursday, August 20th at the Bridgeport Christian Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Rev. Keith McAliley and Rev. Philip Case will officiate. The service will be held at 12:00 noon followed by lunch. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Thorn Hill Adult Education Center where a scholarship in honor of Mike will be established.
