Glendora F. Ison
September 9, 1930 - February 23, 2019
Glendora Fields Ison, 88, of Frankfort, died Saturday evening at Frankfort Regional Medical Center. She was born September 9, 1930 in Whitesburg, Kentucky, and was the daughter of the late Lora Combs and William “Bill” Fields. She was reared on her grandfather’s farm and loved the beauty and mysteries of nature at a very early age. These memories she cherished throughout her lifetime. Glendora graduated from Whitesburg High School in 1948 and attended Bowling Green Business University. She worked fifteen years for Kentucky Power Company in Whitesburg. After moving to Frankfort, she worked in the Kentucky State Legislation Sessions and the Education Department. She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Faithful Followers Sunday School Class, XYZ Club, V.F.W. Auxiliary, and Flat Creek Homemakers. Glendora was a caring and compassionate person with a winning personality and was loved by all. She is survived by her husband, Glenn C. Ison, of Frankfort; her daughter, Jennifer Ison (Darrin) Drake, of Hickman, TN; two sisters, Shirley Fields (Ivan) Hall, of Lexington, and Billie Shannon Banks, of Louisville; a nephew, William Reed (Jennifer) Hall, two great-nephews, Wesley Reed and Matthew Winston Hall, of Atlanta, GA; and a special cousin, Pam Combs, of Eustis, FL. Additional survivors include several beloved cousins, numerous relatives, and a host of devoted friends and neighbors. She is preceded in death by her cousin, James Mannon“Jimmy” Combs. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Immanuel Baptist Church in Frankfort. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be at Louisville Memorial Garden. Pallbearers will be Gary Lawson, Hubert Hall, Jr., Tim Smith, Benny League, Matt Sosby, and George Mann. Honorary pallbearers will be Karen Lawson, Priscilla Barnes, Zari Hariri, Michelle Morgan, Debbie Hall, Millie Minter, and members of the Faithful Followers Sunday School Class at Immanuel Baptist Church and friends. And finally, because of Glendora’s love for cooking, and the fact that she never wanted to see anyone go hungry, it is requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the ACCESS Soup Kitchen and Men’s Shelter, 311 W. 2nd Street, Frankfort, Kentucky, 40601.
