George Marvin Mitchell
May 5, 1946 - November 1, 2013
George Marvin Mitchell, 67, Frankfort passed on to eternal rest following a long battle with cancer on Friday, November 1, 2013. He leaves behind his devoted and loving wife of 16 years Sharon Stanfield Mitchell. George loved the Lord and was a member of Choateville Christian Church and loved to give his testimony of what Christ had done for him personally. He was an avid country music lover and taught guitar and played with several bands. He enjoyed performing locally for many years at Six Mile jamboree, Country Place Jamboree and Camp Nelson. George was a landscape planner with the KY Physical Plant, Landscape Division and retired after 30 years of service. He was proud of his contributions to the state in helping to beautify the state properties. He served under several Governors and took great pride in his work. George loved traveling and was always ready to chart new territories. He traveled to 39 of the 48 continental states, Hawaii, Canada, Mexico and the Bahamas over the last 16 years. Born to John Anderson and Mary Myrtle Mitchell of Stamping Ground, Kentucky, He was preceded in death by sister, Margaret Clark, son John Walter Mitchell, mother-in-law Joyce Stanfield. In addition to his wife Sharon, survivors include two daughters Lisa Carol Mitchell, Somerset, Reba Fawn Mitchell, Lawrenceburg; two granddaughters Whitley Taylor Mitchell and Cheyanna Fawn Feltner; sister Dorothy Mae Pacey, brother Clarence Douglas Mitchell, father-in-law Frank Stanfield, Tampa, FL and brother-in-law David Stanfield, Frankfort; He also leaves behind several lifelong friends and a most supportive church family. Visitation will be held Monday 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. at LeCompte Johnson Taylor Funeral Home with a Celebration of Life service immediately following at 6 p.m. His service will be delivered by his dear friend and minister, Mike Napier of Choateville Christian church. Final interment will be at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Louisville. All services will be under the close supervision of Hal Taylor, of LeCompte Johnson Taylor Funeral Home, a longtime friend and associate,. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to God's Plentiful Pantry, Choateville Christian Church, P.O. Box 5533, Frankfort, KY or Hospice of the Bluegrass, 663 Teton Trail, Frankfort.
