Gary Moore Ferguson
February 13, 1944 - December 30, 2017
Memorial services for Gary Moore Ferguson, 73, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at LeCompte Johnson Taylor Funeral Home. A gathering for family and friends will begin at 12 noon to service time. Born in Frankfort, Kentucky, on February 13, 1944, Gary was educated in the public schools of Franklin County. In 1966 he graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's Degree in Music with an emphasis in piano. In 1969 he received the Master of Church Music Degree from the School of Church of The Southern Baptist Seminary with an emphasis in organ. Gary is survived by his sister, Carol; and brother, Kevin and his wife Barbara, nephew Mike and niece Tracy Ferguson and three great nieces and one great nephew. He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence, in 1999.and mother, Clara Belle in 2015. From 1969-1984 he served as Minister Music and Organist at first Baptist Church Darlington, South Carolina. He moved to Danville, Virginia in March of 1984 to serve West Main Baptist Church as Organist and Minister of Music. He also served in an adjunct position teaching organ and handbells at Averett University. Gary retired from West Main in June of 2011. In addition to music, Gary enjoyed sailing, running, gardening and yoga. In lieu of flowers Memorials may be sent to Duke ALS Clinic, Stacey R.
