Adolph Doc Moore

Services for Adolph “Doc” Moore, 87, Frankfort, will be held Saturday 11:00 a.m. at LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Frankfort Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by VFW#Post 4075. Mr. Moore passed away at the UK Chandler Medical Center on Wednesday. Born on February 29, 1924, to Rudolph and Lena Jones Moore, he was a lifelong resident of Frankfort. Known for his honesty, loyalty, and colorful language, Doc graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1942 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1943, serving as a radio gunner in the South Pacific on Midway Island. While serving he received four Distinguished Flying Crosses and twelve Air Medals. An avid hunter and fisherman his entire life, he joined the Ky Dept. of Fish and Wildlife after his discharge, retiring in 1975 after 32 years of service. In 1947 he founded the Doc Moore Insurance Agency, serving thousands of local residents with their insurance needs for 50 years. He was a member of the Independent Insurance Agents and Mutual Agents of Ky while in business and served as its President in 1977. Doc was also a life member of First Christian Church, where he served as a deacon, and also the Frankfort Country Club, VFW Post #4075, Hiram Lodge F&AM, the Louisville Scottish Rite and Oleika Shrine Temple. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Howard and Carlisle; a sister, Pauline Wooldridge; and his first wife of 42 years, Mary Evelyn Warfield Moore. Survivors include his wife, Ivory S. Moore; daughter, Paula A. Moore; sister, Kathleen Perry; step-daughter, Leslie Combs; three nieces and seven great-nieces and nephews; and former son-in-law, Ron Carson. Visitation will be held Friday 4-8 p.m. at LeCompte-Johnson-Taylor Funeral Home.
