Russell Wayne Wainscott, age 61, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Funeral will be1:00 pm Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at LeCompte Johnson Taylor. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of service on Wednesday. He will be laid to rest at Peaks Mill Cemetery. Born in Lexington, Russell was the beloved son of Edna Young Wainscott and the late Russell Autry Wainscott. He was a devoted father, a cherished grandfather, and a dear brother, uncle, and friend to many. Russell had a gift for working with his hands and spent countless hours tinkering in his building, where he could turn anything into something beautiful. His building wasn't just a workshop—it was a gathering place. It became the go-to hangout spot for him, his kids, and his friends, filled with stories, music, and memories that will never fade. He had a heart bigger than most. He loved his children more than anything in the world and would drop whatever he was doing to be there for them. His grandchildren were his pride and joy; they always knew he'd show up with candy and open arms. Russell had a one-of-a-kind sense of humor. He always joked and made people laugh, even in the most serious situations. His light-hearted spirit and quick wit brought comfort and joy to everyone around him. He was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought. More than a friend, he was the kind of person everyone hopes to have in their life—always giving, always there, and never expecting anything in return. He is survived by his loving mother, Edna; his children, Ashley Wainscott, Brittney Wainscott, Emily Wainscott, and Joseph Wainscott; and his seven grandchildren, Kelsey Jackson, Journey Smothers, Nash Smothers, Brinkley Rogers, Zane Johnson, Zyair Johnson, and Mayleigh Johnson. Russell also leaves behind his siblings, Kim W. Wainscott, Kathy Clark (Tony), Lena Hannan, Mark Wainscott (Lori), and Milton Wainscott (Monica), along with numerous nieces and nephews who will forever hold his memory close. He was preceded in death by his father, Russell Autry Wainscott, and his son, Dwayne Lee Wainscott. Cody Wainscott, Lucas Wainscott, William Wainscott, Ethan Hannan, Andrew Hannan, Kimbee Wainscott, Emily Wainscott, Joseph Wainscott, and Jeff Ware will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations to the funeral home to help with the cost of Russell's services. Your support during this difficult time is deeply appreciated.
