Jonelle W. Rodriguez

Services for Jonelle W. Rodriguez, 88 will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday at LeCompte Johnson Taylor Funeral Home. Rev. Truett Cocanougher and Dr. Robert Browning will officiate. Visitation will be 11:00 am until the time of service Saturday. Jonelle W. Rodriguez was born in Paducah, KY to Wayne Wilson and Josephine Ayers. She was raised by her Grandmother Verda Wallace Bennett, whom she called Momma. Jonelle attended college at John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas where she got her Bachelor of Science degree in 1949. After graduating, Jonelle married Carlos R. Rodriguez and after several years moved to Puerto Rico where she taught at the Caribbean School. In 1966 Momma could no longer live alone so Jonelle and Carlos made the decision to move their family to Kentucky to take care of her. After Momma’s passing, Jonelle started a new career with the Commonwealth of Kentucky as a case worker in Louisville. She worked her way up to a position in Central Office in Frankfort working with the Medicaid Department. She took on many artistic endeavors with great enthusiasm producing works in acrylics, oils, 0watercolors, wood carving, needlepoint, macramé, as well as crafts. Her family and friends were the recipients of many of these and her Christmas ornaments hangs on many tress during the holiday season. Jonelle loved her family and her church tremendously. Jonelle accepted Christ at an early age and served Him well throughout her life. She was the first to teach her Grandchildren about Jesus and prayed the Sinner’s prayer with them as well as her two oldest Great-Grandchildren as recently as two weeks ago. She taught Sunday School at the First Baptist Church at the Singing Bridge and considered the many members of her Sunday School as her extended family. Jonelle leaves behind her daughters Sharon A. Rodriguez and Carmen M. Mays (Daniel) as well as five Grandchildren: Daniela R. Marshall (Michael), Carolos D. Mays, Joseph O. Mays, Matthew R. Mays, and James P. Mays, Carlos R. Rodriguez and Alice Rodriguez (Carlos’ wife and good friend to Jonelle). She also leaves behind three Great-Grandchildren: Carmen Marshall; Michael Marshall and Madalyn Mays as well as soon to come – Greyson Mays.
