Barbara Ann Howard

Barbara Ann Allen Howard, 61, of Frankfort, Ky., formerly of Morgantown, Ky., passed away on November 6, 2010 at 2:15pm at the Markey Cancer Center in Lexington, Ky. She is survived by her husband of 29 years COL (Ret.) Gerald V. Howard and daughter Corey Ann Howard, both of Frankfort, Ky.; her parents Hayward and Violet Coots Allen, brother Michael Allen (Terry), nephew Travis Allen (Jana) and nephew Jacob Allen all of Morgantown, Ky.; aunt Lucille Raymer of Mt. Washington, uncle Harlan Allen (Wilma) of Shepherdsville, uncle Archie Moore (Daphna) of Morgantown and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Levi and Eulalia Allen and Boatley and Cora Coots. Survivors also include: mother-in-law Mary Marjory Howard, sister-in-law Marian F. Stewart, sister-in-law Marcia Henderson (Ron), brother-in-law Evan Howard (Carol), sister-in-law Charlene Stafford (Gary), sister-in-law Lia Knower (Matt), nieces and nephews Suellen Stewart, Evanjohn Howard, Peter Howard, Kimberly Stafford, Michael Stafford, Andrew Stafford, Lynette Knower and great-nieces Schuyler Alexis Stewart, Elizabeth Stewart and Alice Stewart. She was preceded in death by her father-in-law Charles R. Howard, mother-in-law Ellen Nott Howard and nephew Martin Stewart. Barbara graduated from Butler County High School (Class of 1967 Co-Valedictorian) where she was a cheerleader and member of the Butler County 4H. She graduated from Western Kentucky University (Class of 1971). She retired from Kentucky state government with 32 years of service. She was an active member of Buck Run Baptist Church Sanctuary Choir and Praise Team, the Franklin County Democratic Woman’s Club and was the Vice-Chair of the Franklin County Democratic Executive Committee. She also enjoyed playing the piano, gardening, antiquing, playing golf and traveling. Pallbearers are: Michael Allen, Travis Allen, Jacob Allen, Jim Jackson, COL (Ret.) Larry Arnett and COL (Ret.) Steve Evans. Visitation is Tuesday, 10:00am-12:00pm EST at Buck Run Baptist Church, 3894 Georgetown Road, Frankfort, Ky., with the funeral service following at 12:30pm EST. Burial will be 3:00pm CST at Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, 215 Mt. Vernon Church Road, Morgantown, Ky. 42261.
