James Ward Stocker

James Ward Stocker, 83, Frankfort, husband of Geneva Mae Murray Stocker, passed away Saturday, March 14, 2015 at Taylor Manor Nursing Home, Versailles. Born November 9, 1931 in Burgin, KY, he was the son of the late John Lewis and Ella Trueheart Curd Stocker. He graduated from Burgin High School, served in the United States Air Force and graduated from the University of Kentucky. He worked for the KY Department of Finance, Division of Engineering and retired in 1994. He was a 50 year member of Immanuel Baptist Church in Frankfort where he joyfully served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, choir member, girls’ softball coach and a whenever needed “fix it” man. He was also a 30 year member and past president of the East Frankfort Kiwanis Club where he enjoyed getting involved in annual activities such as Little League baseball tournaments and Christmas tree sales. He cherished the time at Herrington Lake fishing, skiing and providing memories for family and friends. He enjoyed camping, playing Bridge, traveling and excitedly cheering for the UK Wildcats. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Geneva Mae Murray Stocker, Frankfort; one son James Mark Stocker, Frankfort; two daughters Cynthia Kay Stocker (Tiger) Pennington, Lawson, Missouri and Valerie Paige Stocker (Paul) Sommerfield, Frankfort; three grandchildren, Kristina Michelle Pennington (Fadil) Rexhepi, Tyler Joshua “TJ” Pennington and David Patrick Sommerfield; three great-grandchildren, Braden Fadil Rexhepi, Leila Danae Rexhepi and Blake Tyler Rexhepi; two first cousins Martha Rae Curd Durham and Lynda McGee Carr; and numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter David Stocker and Luther Donald Stocker, and a sister, Mary Annelle Stocker Scott. Funeral services and visitation will be at Immanuel Baptist Church, Frankfort, Thursday March 19. Visitation will begin at 11am with the service to follow at 1pm. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Frankfort. Pallbearers will be Herman Perry, John Norfleet, David Finch, George Pennington, Paul Sommerfield, Curtis Hopkins, and CJ Murray. Those who have been touched in a special way by Jim Stocker will serve as honorary pallbearers. November 19, 1931 - March 14, 2015
